We have received a Rotary District Grant for our next project at Camp Alexander.
Camp Alexander has a unique story. E.J. Alexander, upon his death in 1923, left 40 acres and all of his savings to the orphaned and needy children of Emporia and Lyon County. Camp Alexander was founded as a result. Alexander sold fruits and vegetables in Emporia, grown on 40 acres of land east of Emporia. He always distributed part of his produce to needy families. For his legacy, he wanted children to experience the great outdoors and Camp Alexander. Camp Alexander is a non-profit organization, with the mission of empowering children by providing a safe place for growth and enrichment in the great outdoors while prospering a respect for the environment.
We have received a $3,198 district grant to be combined with club funding of $1,599 for a total of $4,797 to spend on materials at Camp Alexander. Several of the buildings, which were constructed in the 1960’s require new siding, paint and caulking. We plan to start working in November, and see what can be completed prior to winter. Any work left will be completed in the spring.
