Dr. Blake Flanders, President and CEO of the Kansas Board of Regents, presented to our club the state of higher education in Kansas.
We are in a talent war to produce and retain talent in Kansas. Those moving to our state have a lower attainment rate than those in our history. Kansas' population changes include increasing populations of Hispanics and first generation college students. The total costs of a higher education have risen about the same as the cost of living.
What has increased is the share of higher education costs that are being borne by our students (56%).
