Our Rotary Club has committed $25,000 to Mission Madagascar, the new lemur exhibit. We have been holding the funds for them after several years of fund raising. This new exhibit is finally getting the total funding that it needs to proceed with construction. Come to the dedication at the David Traylor Zoo where we will present our $25,000 check.
Every fall our Rotary Club purchases and distributes dictionaries to every third grader attending Emporia public schools, Emporia Christian School and Sacred Heart Catholic School. Tim North reported that the dictionaries are here, and Interact Club members from the Emporia Middle School are planning to label each dictionary with stickers showing who is donating the dictionaries. Our Rotary Club is providing pizza for the Interact Club members during their "labeling party" on October 14, 3:30-4:25 at the Emporia Middle School. If you wish to participate, contact Tim North or Teresa Maley.

Cycle for Heart is where I bicycle across the USA; collaborating with the American Heart Association, I stop at elementary, middle, and high schools, colleges and universities, to give free presentations to the students about living a healthy and active lifestyle. In addition to education, I stop at city halls and state capitals, and lobby our elected officials about student health. And whenever possible I offer to be the guest speaker at any Rotary meeting.
My goal is to raise awareness and funds for the American Heart Association and Rotary International's Polio Plus Program.
Previously I have ridden over 28,000 miles around the US, speaking to over 55,000 students. I have met with over a 100 different city, state, and federal officials - including being recognized on the State Senate floor in Ohio, Massachusetts, and Louisiana, the State Representative floor in Missouri and Louisiana, by Congresswoman Lois Capps in DC, and I have received letters of support from the White House. In addition, I have been featured in numerous TV, newspaper, and radio news stories.
