We are getting back in the swing of weekly meetings on September 1. Mike Crouch is bringing Emporia High football coach Corby Milleson as our speaker. He is bringing three players with him (Nick Kirmer, Max Brown and Tanner Taylor). It should be a fun program.
Rotary District Governor John Donovan paid a visit to our club meeting. John said that if our only Rotary experience is from our club, then we are missing out on a lot of Rotary experiences. Some notable things John said included the following:
Have FUN.
Don't let a Rotary rule get in the way.
Early Rotary meetings were rotated between member's workplaces. That was how Rotary got its name.
The first Rotary project was a Public Comfort Station.
Our club is one of the biggest giving clubs to the Rotary Foundation.
The Rotary Club of Emporia donated $940 to the Cradle to Career Literacy Center. The funds will be used testing for dyslexic kids and other similar conditions to improve curriculum options that are available. Angie Schreiber was at the club meeting to accept the donation. She indicated that one out of every five kids can display dyslexic symptoms.
